In September we have Dr. Richard Rosenberg, Professor Emeritus in UBC's Computer Science department, to speak on issues of privacy and the Internet. Technology is making privacy increasingly difficult to protect from the interests of governments, corporations, and individuals. Join us to consider some of these threats and their potential consequences. Following the presentation we'll have a door prize draw, round-the-room introductions, and then open the floor for networking. This is a networking event so bring your business/contact cards and a story or two to share.

About the Presentation:

Dr. Rosenberg will present a brief overview of some of the current threats to privacy, on the Internet, as well as emerging ones. The impact on life in a democratic society may be severe and it is certainly worth making the effort to preserve privacy as a basic right in a democratic society. Some technologies of concern are RFID, GPS, and, the growing use of data mining for military, intelligence, and business purposes.
