Details

In June we have Aaron Hilton of CellMap with a presentation on the challenges of building mobile applications with web technology stacks. Web services from companies like Google, Yahoo!, and Microsoft combined with the improving performance and connectivity of mobile devices have opened the doors for a suite of innovative mashup applications. Join us as Aaron shows us why we don't want to put regular Web apps on mobile devices. Following the presentation we'll have a door prize draw, round-the-room introductions, and then open the floor for networking. This is a networking event so bring your business/contact cards and a story or 2 to share.

About the presentation:

CellMap has created a set of online tools to build miniature self-contained mobile applications. While it's generally assumed that mobile devices will have always-on Internet access, in reality people may lose Internet access in places like sub-way tunnels, buildings, and aircraft and out in the boonies. These situations represent opportunities for maintaining off-line content in mobile applications that have been created and distributed with online tools. (and yeah, we're mashing it up with the best of 'em. ;)

About the speaker:

Aaron Hilton's passion for computer technology ignited at the age of 7 when his dad gave him a book on GW Basic. At age 10 he discovered TurboBasic, Bulletin Board Systems, and 3D graphics and then at 12 it was C/C++. He went on to study computer science at Camosun and UVic while working at Disney, EA, and UVic. Today, as the CTO and a founder of CellMap, his passion continues with a project that focuses on connecting people, places, and events via interactive maps on cell phones.

Stay tuned for further updates...
