In April we'll open the meeting with a presentation by Jim Brosseau of Clarrus Consulting about the Capability Maturity Model which has great promise but often doesn't deliver. Following the presentation we'll have round-the-room introductions and then open the floor for networking. Be sure to bring your business cards and a story to share.

About The Presentation:

The CMMI is like Jessica Rabbit: It's Not Bad, It's Just Implemented That Way!

What started out as an assessment method for the US Department of Defense to determine the maturity of their contractors has become the standard that many companies use to suggest that they are the best company to work with. A comprehensive description of a hierarchy of best practices, the CMMI and its predecessor the CMM (Capability Maturity Model) are often cited, but rarely understood, and are more often used as a marketing vehicle than a technical assessment of a group's true capabilities.

In this discussion, Jim will give a brief overview of the CMMI, and recall some of his experiences over the past 15 years, involved in CMM initiatives from the inside, alongside certified Evaluators, and with companies that have been assessed at CMM Level 5.

About the speaker:

Jim Brosseau has been in a wide variety of roles and responsibilities in a career spanning over 20 years. He has worked with over 50 companies across North America, including numerous BC companies such as FinancialCAD, Spectrum Signal Processing, Agile-IT and Cellex Power Products. Jim is the principal of Clarrus, and is focused on improving the business performance of BC technology organizations.
