I should have added …
You can’t get very far into the topic of position sensing
without encountering “Khalman filters”. I can’t find the “really
good” link I was looking for but will forward it if I do. In the mean
time, here’s the Wiki link on Khalman filters (hey, it was easy to find!)…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalman_filter
I’m not suggesting that you guys consider implementing a
Khalman filter. However, I’d bet that you are probably thinking about
combining multiple sensors already. For example, GPS, cell tower triangulation,
geo-coded hotspots, accelerometers, and magnetic heading sensors were all
discussed today. So, if you are thinking of how to combine them into a system
you should be aware of Khalman filters.
I’ve seen some other cases for indoor location that
combined statistics, learning, and multiple sensors but I think these are way
off topic.
Best regards,
Todd

Subject: [softwaredev-89] Today's meetup...
It
was nice to meet a bunch of you today a MIT (thanks Joe for coordinating!).
During the meeting I mentioned a few things that I thought would be
of interest. Here are some links…
Privacy
/ security / identity…
http://www.sxip.com/ watch
the Identity 2.0 presentation linked to on this page

this will play the DEMO presentation
With
respect to sensors, navigation, etc. I mentioned looking at robotics resources.
While some of the techniques (like dead reckoning, odometry, etc.) don’t
apply in the context of mobile phones I think you will find some of the
information in the following paper useful. Although a bit dated, this paper
does provide a good tour of sensors, methods, issues, etc.

I
hope you find these links interesting / useful.
Best
